Topic sentences help a lot. Proofread! Write your paper. Read it carefully. Work on it a bit more. Repeat.
Scientific writing should be formal. Be careful to avoid colloquialisms or turns of phrase that you might use in conversation but would not be appropriate in a formal environment.
Do NOT use the word prove.
From Berkeley: “Science is based on the principle that any idea, no matter how widely accepted today, could be overturned tomorrow if the evidence warranted it. Science accepts or rejects ideas based on the evidence; it does not prove or disprove them.”
Be careful to consider how you use the words correlation and significant, so that they are used appropriately within the scientific context. These words are often used when we speak to each other, but have specific meaning when used in scientific writing.
